Privacy
Sparewise collects nothing. There is no account, no telemetry and no analytics. Nothing about your PC, your files or how you use Sparewise is sent to us or to anyone else.
What stays on your PC
Sparewise reads folder names, sizes and dates to tell you what fills your drive. Its scan history, settings and set-aside items are kept in your own user folder (%LocalAppData%\DevStorage) and never leave the PC. Uninstalling Sparewise does not send anything anywhere.
When Sparewise goes online
Only for these, each named here:
- Updates: checks GitHub for a newer version of Sparewise when you press Updates, and once a day after you open the window unless you turn automatic updates off in Settings. GitHub sees an ordinary download request, with no ID or details about your PC; we only see GitHub's total count of these requests, which tells us roughly how many copies are in use. In Settings you choose: on, paused for 7 days (the screen shows the day they turn back on by themselves), or off until you turn them on. While paused or off, nothing is checked or downloaded until you press Updates; the note that a copy is over 60 days old comes from the date it was built, not from the internet. The Microsoft Store copy is updated by the Store instead.
- App updates: asks Windows' own package manager (winget) which installed apps have updates, only when you open that list; winget asks Microsoft's servers.
- Reinstalling an npm tool it removed: npm downloads that tool again.
- Report a problem and links: open your web browser on a page you can read before sending anything. The app and Windows versions and the last few errors are filled in for you, with folder paths, links, your user name and your PC name removed; delete anything you prefer not to share.
Your own local AI
If you run a model with Ollama on your PC, the drive map can ask it what an unknown folder might be, when you press the button. Only the folder's name and the names of what is inside it are sent, and only to Ollama on your own PC (127.0.0.1); nothing goes online. The answer is shown as a guess and never changes what Sparewise offers to clear.
AI assistants
If you connect an AI assistant (Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Codex), what Sparewise tells the assistant, such as folder names and sizes, becomes part of your conversation with it and is handled by that assistant's provider under its own privacy terms. Sparewise itself sends nothing.
