Games are taking all my disk space
Short answer: One modern game is often 50 GB or more. Shader caches rebuild by themselves and are safe to clear. Remove or move games only with their own launcher, so they keep working.
By hand, with Windows' own tools
- Steam: Library, right-click a game, Manage, Uninstall, or Properties, Installed files, Move install folder.
- Epic Games Launcher: Library, the three dots on a game, Uninstall or Move.
- Xbox app: right-click the game, Manage, Files, Move or Uninstall.
With Sparewise
- Lists every Steam, Epic and Xbox game with its size and when you last played it.
- Finds shader caches that rebuild themselves.
- Removes games only through their own launcher.
Questions
Is it safe to delete the shader cache?
Yes. Games rebuild it; the first launch afterwards may stutter briefly.
