OneDrive is taking up space on my PC
Short answer: OneDrive can keep a local copy of every file. With Files On-Demand, files stay in the cloud and download only when you open them, so the space on your PC comes back and the files stay yours.
By hand, with Windows' own tools
- Click the OneDrive cloud icon, Settings, Sync and back up, Advanced settings, and turn on Files On-Demand.
- Right-click a big folder in OneDrive and choose Free up space.
With Sparewise
- Shows how much OneDrive keeps locally that could stay online only.
- Never removes OneDrive files itself: it points to OneDrive's own setting.
Questions
Does "Free up space" in OneDrive delete my files?
No. They stay in OneDrive online and download again when you open them.
